Pakistan supreme court stands on Mumtaz Qadri's death sentence
ISLAMABAD:The killer of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer,Mumtaz Qadri has lost his appeal against the death sentence handed down to him by an Anti Terrorism Court(ATC) in Octomber 2011.
Qadri,a former commando of Punjab police's elite Force shot dead Salman Taseer on January 4,2011.
After his arrest,Qadri had said that he killed the governor because he spoke against the blasphemy law of the country.
Mumtaz Qadri shot Taseer to death outside a coffee upmarket shop,a place not far from the latter's house in Islamabad.
Following the sentencing,Qadri's councels had challenged the ATC's judgement, saying it was unjusifiable and against Shariah and the constintution of Pakistan.
But Justice Asif Saeed Khosa maintained that in any democratic government, the people has right to criticise any law made by the parliament because it was made by representatives of the people.
And any one taken laws into his hands is a crime.
Qadri still has right to submit a mercy appeal to the president.
