DUBAI:A 22-year-old Bangladeshi carpenter who was sentence to a four-year jail for selling and possessing 4.7g of marijuana on Dubai streets by First Instance Court had got his sentence reversed to life jail by a higher Dubai court. Dubai Public Prosecution had appealed against the lower court ruling asking for a death sentence for the accused. According to prosecutions,the anti-narcotics department at Dubai Police on June 20,2014 got information that the accused was selling marijuana on the Dubai streets. Following the report,a trap by the police and the anti-drugs department was set up. A police source was sent to the Naif area to meet the accused with the pretence to buy drugs. A police prosecutor told the court that their source and the accused arrived at a bargined price of Dhs500. As the accused made to produce the plastic bag containing the drugs,he was arrested with 4.78kg of marijuana. A search at his home and his urine teste were all negative of drugs. He has 30days to appeal.
