Taliban:Leader's death finally confirmed.
KABUL:The high-ranking officials from the Afgan Taliban on Thursday confirmed the death of their leader,Mullah Mohammad Omar.
They also said that a new leader,Mullah Akhtar Mansoor had been elected as the successor.
Mullah Akhtar Mansoor had been Omar's deputy for the past three year.
The seven member Shura or Supreme Council put heads together to chose Mullah Akhtar Mansoor as the new leader in the Pakistan meeting held for the purpose.
Sirajuddin Haqqani,who has a US government bounty of $10 million on his head was also chosen as the new deputy leader.
On Wednesday,Afgan government first announced the death of the Taliban leader,saying that Mullar Mohammad Omar actually died over two years ago in a Pakistan hospital.
No confirmation of the statement from Taliban or Pakistan yet.
