The US government has promised to assist the Nigerian minitary against its war to flush out the Boko Haram Islamist from the northeast of the country. The nature of assistance promised ranges from personnel,advices,minitary hardware and intelligent,which will effectively help them engage the insurgents. It will be recalled that simillar deal was entered with the past government of Goodluck Jonathan,but was terminated as a result of human rights abuse by the minitary and the high level of corruption in the then administration approach in tackling the insurgents. According to the US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa,Linda Thomas-Greenfield,she said"We want to work with him(Buhari) and have expressed that to him.With the new government we are optimistic we can reset the relationship." Meanwhile,the US has promised to send more advicers and personnel in the coming weeks to train the minitary.
