Naegleria Fowleri:the parasite that feeds on human brain
In Karachi,the Provincial health authorities on Tuesday confirmed the 11th death caused by the deadly parasite called Naegleria Fowleri also known as 'brain-eating amoeba'.
It was the eighth recorded dead from Karachi and the 11th in Sindh in the current year,bring the death tolls to 33 in Pakistan in the last three years.
Experts says,just two out of hundreds of cases of the disease in its history had survived in the world.
According to medical findings,the lethal amoeba survives on bacteria in warm waters and enter human brain through nasal cavity and eats up its tissues.
They said the daedly germs could only be decimated through proper chlorination or boiling of water.
The disease though not common,had crept its way to California,Minnesota,Louisiana and spreading gradually to other parts of the world.
Experts had cautioned people from swimming in lakes and rivers during hot weather.
