The Shia militia, known as Hashid Shaabi or Popular Mobilisation, has been ordered to mobilise in readiness to retake the capital city of Anbar province overrun by the IS militants on sunday.
Meanwhile the US-led war planes has also intensified raids against the IS fighters, launching 19 air strikes near Ramadi in the last 72 hours at the request of the Iraqi security forces.
However, the IS militants have started moving towards the base where the Shia paramilitaries were grouping to set a stage for the battle of the city of Anbar.
About 3,000 fully equipped and highly capable Shia militia were on ground for the counter-offensive.
An eyewitness described a long line of armoured vehicles and trucks mounted with machine guns and rockets, flying the yellow flags of Kataib Hezbollah, one of the militia factions, heading towards the base about 30km(20 miles)from Ramadi.
